Welcome. This is a new blog to stimulate interest in a single non-partisan objective: to end the absurd practice of making us endure an extra hour of darkness in the evenings during the winter months. We realise that people living in Scotland, particularly in the north strongly dislike having to endure extra darkness in then mornings. We sympathise - but we do not think this should b allowed to dictate what happens in the rest of the country since Scotland could adopt flexitime or use its devolved powers to keep the status quo.
Research, particularly by the Policy Studies Institute has shown that if we had an extra hour of daylight during winter evenings rather than in the morning it would lead to 2,000 fewer accidents including over 100 fewer deaths besides boosting tourism and saving energy. It would also be a rare case of politicians being able to improve the quality of life at no cost since we would all feel a little better going home in daylight. The clocks will go back by one hour on Sunday morning. Help us make this the last time it happens.
